Dear Hastings Dems, In 2023, three seats will be up for election in the Village of Hastings-on-Hudson—those of Mayor and two Trustees. Mayor Nicola Armacost and Trustee Tom Drake have indicated their intention to seek re-election next year. Trustee Mary Lambert will not be running again, and we thank her greatly for her dedication and service to the community. This will be Hastings’ first election cycle since the date of the Hastings Village Election was moved to November. In accordance with New York State Election Law, candidates for Village office will need to submit designating petitions to the Westchester County Board of Elections for certification. (Nominees will no longer be determined at a party Caucus.) Those seeking Hastings Village office must be residents of the Village of Hastings-on-Hudson.
Anyone who would like to be considered for endorsement by the Hastings Democratic Committee is invited to send a résumé and letter of introduction to hastingsdems10706@gmail.com by Tuesday, January 10. The letter should state qualifications and experience, goals for the Village, and thoughts about implementation of those goals. Prospective candidates who meet the State’s eligibility criteria and make their submission by the Committee’s deadline will be asked to interview with the Committee members in an executive session to be scheduled in January. They will also be asked to participate in a meet-the-candidates event for registered Democrats to be scheduled in February. Thereafter, the Committee will meet to decide whether and whom to endorse. The Committee’s endorsement does not determine which candidates will run for office or appear on the Democratic Party ballot line in the General Election; the registered Democratic voters of Hastings-on-Hudson decide that by choosing which designating petitions to sign and, in the case of a contest, by voting in the June Primary Election. The function of an endorsement is for the Committee to identify those candidates for whom Committee members will be asked to carry designating petitions, as well as to indicate the Committee's candidate preferences to the community. As we make our way through a new election cycle, please know that the Hastings Democratic Committee will strive to provide a process that is transparent and informative for the community at large. Onward, Cassandra Sweet Chair, Hastings Democratic Committee
